Strawberry Chiffon Cake with Chocolate Strawberry Glaze


It might not look like one but, yes, that is a strawberry chiffon cake.  I didn’t get a chance to take a picture of a slice because I made it for our next door neighbor who celebrated his 69th birthday a couple of days ago and I didn’t want to deliver a cake minus a slice!  I adapted the recipe from Aunty Yochana‘s with just some minor changes.


  • 4 egg yolks
  • 5 egg whites
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup pureed fresh strawberries
  • 5 tbs vegetable oil
  • 1 1/4 cup cake flour
  • 1 tsp  baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp cream of tartar


  1. Combine the egg yolks with half the sugar until well mixed.  Add the oil and strawberry puree and continue stirring.
  2. Sift the flour and baking powder and add into the yolk mixture.
  3. In an electric mixer, beat egg white with cream of tartar. Gradually add the rest of sugar gradually and beat till stiff.
  4. Fold egg white with the egg yolk mixture and pour into a prepared pan (greased and dusted with flour)
  5. Bake in a preheated 350F oven for 45 to 50  minutes.  When cake is done, remove from oven and invert into a wire rack to cool.
  6. Slide a spatula around the cake pan to remove cake.  Drizzle chocolate strawberry glaze and serve.

Chocolate Strawberry Glaze


  • 1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tbs  unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup pureed strawberry
  • sugar (optional)


  1. On a double boiler, melt chocolate chips with butter.  Add strawberry puree (and sugar if desired) and stir until melted and shiny.
  2. Keep on double boiler until ready to use.

Yum! This strawberry chiffon looks excellent. Lucky next door neighbor. I’m sure this was a fabulous bday celebration cake!! And I love the chocolate topping. Strawberries and chocolate were meant to be together :)
