Mini Hamburger Buns

This recipe was adapted from fellow Daring Baker Rosa of Rosa’s Yummy Yums recipe for Hamburger Buns.  It was a tweaked version of the King Arthur Flour recipe for burger buns.  At our 70s disco party, we made mini versions of these and served them with chicken teriyaki meatballs cut in half to make it look like mini burgers!

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 tbs unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 Egg
  • 3 1/4 cup all purpose flour or wholewheat flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tbs instant yeast
  • egg wash (1 egg yolk mixed with a tsp of water)

  1. In a bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and set aside for 5 to 10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add the rest of the ingredients and mix until it forms a soft dough.
  3. On lightly floured working surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth. Place in a  lightly greased bowl, cover with a towel and let rise until double in size (approx 1 – 1 1/2 hour).
  4. Divide the dough into 16  pieces and shape each piece into a flattened ball. Place on greased baking sheets, cover with a towel and let rise for 30 to 40 minutes or until  puffy and doubled in size.
  5. Preheat oven to 375°F.  Brush buns with egg wash and bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until golden brown.
  6. Remove from the oven and cool on a wire rack.
